MOT test was introduced in the UK many years ago to reduce problems caused by imperfections. A significant improvement was found after a year of its implementation, hence it has been continued to date. In short, its objective is that no vehicle should be brought into public use unless it meets the road fit, safety and eco-friendly parameters. Under this, the health status of all vehicles irrespective of the class they belong to is ascertained. They will be exempted only till they complete 3 years; just one day after this, they must have their valid MOT Reading certificate.  If unable to do so and still use it publicly, then simply transport authority has all right to apply penalties, which include fees, cancellation of the licence and other severe consequences. So make your vehicle capable of passing every inspection. If you have no idea regarding this and have to take part in the test soon, then get the proper guidance first. We have also tried our best to give you all the details under DVSA policies through this blog.

Windscreen: This has been included in the checklist so that the driver's view does not face any problem. It has been noted that even a slight crack will act as an obstacle in passing the MOT. These should be sticker-free as this is considered a kind of distraction. There are many signs of their weakness, like appearing yellowish on the sides. If you experience any unusual sound, then do not take it lightly at all, as it indicates that it is not getting proper support from the frame. Here I am only talking about the front windscreen as it will not affect the MOT result in any way, irrespective of the conditions of the rear one. However, that is also an important part and must be well.

Suspension: Unquestionably the ride will not be comfortable without them. However, their impact is not just limited to the lifespan of tyres, wheels, and the steering system also depends on them. Their role is to control the shocks received while driving on full surface roads. This is why testers make them undergo MOT.  They consist of many components like springs, control arms, bushings, tie rods, and even a small fault in any one of these can cause a negative result. So make sure you pay attention to the issue first. Through several signs, you can identify whether they do not require professional treatment. For example, stray noises like clunking or squealing, car pulls to one direction, uneven and quick tyre wear, out-of-alignment wheels and others.

Wipers: These must be good all the way because whatever falls on their direct windscreen. Before participating in the MOT, ensure that they are well-prepared. If these are broken, then get them replaced immediately; otherwise, these will be rejected. However, not only for this test, but if something like this happens anytime, then take the right step. Scratches can also occur due to a pebble stuck in their rubber, so a visual inspection is required once. These should not be so old that perfect cleaning is not possible. If these stop for a long time during the motion, then it further indicates their malfunctioning. Think yourself whether one has to drive during rain, will their overall health be put at risk or not?

Tyres: When the discussion is going on regarding MOT check and it is impossible not to include the tyres. Their safety depends so much on the fact that they are inspected from so many aspects. What stage of life these have reached is judged from their tread depth status. If they even cross the minimum requirement of 1.6 mm leads to poor grip on the road. These also lose secure stability. Well, as a suggestion, it should be changed to around 2.00mm; otherwise, drive them at low speed. If the tester notes lining on any of their parts, then mention the reason for dealing with their weakness in the fail certificate. Do not avoid it if they are experiencing imbalance or misangled phase as these will get damaged soon.

Wheels: Match vehicle safety standards so don't avoid these too. Any issue in this also leads to unnecessary consequences for the other connected parts. If while driving you feel uncontrolled steering or the car pulling to one side, uneven read unequally wear, then we genuinely advisen’t to delay, opt for Wheel Alignment Reading.  Well the right way is that they should be regularly visually inspected. Due to their imbalanced form, they can be prematurely bent and even cracked. DVSA has also ade the wheels also have to pass the MOT.

Our Last Words—

The inspection list is not over yet - steering system, full body including structure, lighting, all mirrors, fuel system, wiring of critical parts, doors, seat belts, seats, exhaust and emission, battery, vehicle registration number and horn - these are also included. Without having any doubt in your mind, you should select the right servicing package. Multiple checkpoints are covered in this to make the health of the vehicle optimum and to improve its performance.
